The Cadet Counseling Center
Valley Forge recognizes that adjustment problems, anxiety, depression and identity issues are a routine part of adolescent and young adult growth. The counseling service at the Cadet Counseling Center provides opportunities for cadets to explore these and other issues in a confidential setting. Counselors at the Cadet Counseling Center are knowledgeable in the areas of adolescent depression, anxiety, motivation, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, anger management, stress and time management.
The mission of the Cadet Counseling Center is to promote a healthy balance between the academic, emotional, and physical demands of being a cadet through counseling and cadet development programs. Counseling may include individual or group sessions to address social and emotional issues that may inhibit a cadet’s ability to grow and to develop a foundation for healthy interpersonal relationships.
Sessions with cadets are confidential. However, in the event that a cadet expresses a wish to harm him/herself or others, the counselor will inform the appropriate parties.
Cadets may refer themselves for counseling by contacting the Cadet Counseling Center to schedule an appointment. In addition, referrals may be made by the Commandant, Dean of the College, Headmaster of the Academy, Guidance Counselors, the Health Center, Tactical Officers or the Faculty. Parents may also contact the counselors at the Cadet Counseling Center to arrange for counseling. Amy Grolnick, LSW, Director of the Counseling Center, can be reached at (610)989-1225 and Joseph Kelly, MA can be reached at (610)989-1226.
The Cadet Counseling Center is located on the second floor of the Baker Library and is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Counselors meet with cadets during free periods or after classes. In consultation with the cadet’s parents or guardians, counselors can, on an exceptional basis, refer cadets to outside therapists.
