Music and Band
Music 101-102 - Basic Music Theory I and II
These courses include the origins, terms, concepts and methods
of music theory, introduction to the keyboard, notation, rhythmic
reading scales (major, minor, chromatic, pentatonic), intervals,
chord construction and introduction to harmony. Their objective
is to help the students recognize the need for music theory in
performance. Students are also given an introduction to dictation,
and ear training.
Requires permission of the instructor and a musical background.
Three hours per week; three semester-hours credit.
Music 104 - Applied Music: Band
Prerequisite: Permission of the Bandmaster.
This course is open only to music scholarship students assigned
to the Regimental Band. Band is an applied music course combining
both extensive practice and performance in the marching
band and concert venues.
Rehearsals four hours per week 1.5 credits per semester.
Music 105 - Private Lessons
Prerequisite: Permission of the Dean of the College and Regimental Bandmaster. Required for cadets in the Regimental Band.
A studio course in selected instruments or voice for students
desiring to continue to develop their performance ability. Instruments
normally available include brass, woodwind, percussion,
piano, guitar, organ and voice. Lessons are held on a weekly
basis, one-half hour per week for 15 weeks. A recital for each
major instrumentation group is scheduled in the second term.
Students continuing into the second term are required to participate
in a minimum of one recital. Additional fees are required.
One-half hour per week; one-half credit per semester.
Music 114 - Applied Music: Band
Prerequisite: Permission of the Bandmaster and Dean.
Open only to music scholarship students assigned to the Regimental
Band.
Rehearsals four hours per week; 1.5 credits per semester.
Music 115 - Private Lessons (2nd term only)
Prerequisite: MU 105.

Music 106/116/206/216 - Private Lessons (2nd Instrument)
Prerequisite: Permission of the Dean of the College and Regimental Bandmaster.

Music 165/166 - Choir (Freshman Year)
Prerequisite: Permission of the Choir Director/Enrollment in the
Regimental Choir and Chorus for the fall term.
By invitation of the Choral Director. An introduction to vocal
training and development of a selected repertoire of sacred choral
and secular performance music. Students are required to attend
regular rehearsals, participate in weekly chapel services as a
member of the Choir, and perform selected choral vocal pieces as
a member of the Regimental Chorus at scheduled performances
and on tour.
Three hours per week; one semester-hour credit.
Music 204 - Applied Music: Band
Prerequisite: Permission of the Bandmaster
A continuation of MU 104/114. Normally open only scholarship
students assigned to the Regimental Band with
status. Students are required to continue to perform
basis to include participation in a minimum of two performances
and scheduled touring obligations.
Rehearsals four hours per week; 1.5 credits per semester.
Music 214 - Applied Music: Band
Prerequisite: Permission of the Bandmaster and Dean.
Students are required to continue to perform on a regular basis member
of the Regimental Band to include participation minimum
of two concert performances and scheduled touring obligations.
Rehearsals four hours per week; 1.5 credits per semester.
Music 265/266 - Choir II (Sophomore Year)
Prerequisite: Permission of the Choir Director/enrollment
Regimental Choir and Chorus in the fall term; MU
A continuation of the vocal training and introduction
choral and secular performance music. Members will
to attend rehearsals, perform as members of the Choir participate
in selected performances and tours as members Regimental Chorus.
Three hours per week; one semester-hour credit.
